The book will concentrate on the Regiment's 40 years of service to the Crown, the Nation, and to HM The Queen Mother, our Colonel-in-Chief. The book will start with the origins of The Light Infantry and its unique ethos recording the evolution from our illustrious antecedent regiments through to the formation of The Rifles. It will cover the activities of all our batallions - both Regular and Territorial - and take a good look inside the workings of the Regimental System with an examination of the parts played by Regimental Headquarters, the Light Infantry Association, The Bands, the Light Infantry Cadets and the Families.

There will be an examination of the evolution of all aspects of individual training – Depots, Army training Regiment, infantry training centre, Brecon, Warminster and Sandhurst. This will be complemented by chapters covering the wide variety of operations the Regiment took part in, including Mauritius, Northern Ireland, the Cold War, the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as recording the wide variety of deployments worldwide over the period. It will also reflect the lighter side of life through a review of our sporting and adventure training achievements and by capturing the key apocryphal stories!

The book will conclude with an analysis of how and why the Regiment chose voluntarily to merge its unique identity into The Rifles. It will capture the legacy that the Regiment bequeaths to The Rifles to ensure that all that was precious to The Light Infantry will be carried forward into the new regiment.
